Designation overview
The Certified Marketing (CEM®) is CIMMO’s entry-level designation awarded to marketers who have recently graduated with a degree or a post graduate certificate in marketing from a recognized higher education institution.
Target audience
The CEM® designation is recommended for marketing professionals at the entry level that may be joining the workforce in contributing roles for the marketing department or as a sole practitioner.
Professionals at this level would have responsibilities such as supporting and executing marketing tasks at the tactical and transactional levels. They often have titles such as Marketing Assistant, Marketing Coordinator and Marketing Clerk, and others.
Eligibility
Who can apply
You can apply for CEM if you meet all of the following eligibility requirements:
CIMMO membership
CIMMO’s Young Professional membership is in good standing.
Education background
Have completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree or a Post-Grad certificate in Marketing and have graduated from an accredited Higher Education Institution.
Required course completion
Successful completion of the required courses through the CIMMO continuing education stream and successful completion of the CIMMO comprehensive exam.
Process
Steps to CEM Designation

Take a practice exam, available online. Based on your results, you may be recommended to take additional modules before the exam.

Complete any modules recommended by the results of the practice exam, if applicable.

Submit the application form to CIMMO. This will require your resume and academic transcripts.
4
Complete the CEM exam.
Exam
Exam details
Period
Once your application has been approved, you will have 60 days to complete the online exam successfully.
Format
It is made of 200 multiple-choice questions with a three hour competition deadline.
Fee
The exam fee is $99 for CIMMO members and $299 for non-members.
Grading
You will be notified of your grade within 5 minutes of completing the exam.
Certificate
You'll immediately receive your formal certificate If you have passed the exam.
Passing criteria
85% overall, with at least 70% on each module.
